Flow-Decreasing Characteristics

Normally, the flow rate decreases much slower than that of the opening area during the early stage of the valve closing. However, this pattern inverts toward the end of the valve-closing period. As shown in the figure below for most common valves, the majority of flow drops to zero quickly near the end of the valve-closing stroke (or time).
